The Wildcat girls’ basketball team split a pair of Big Rivers Conference games last week, defeating Eau Claire Memorial, 47-30, at home last Tuesday before dropping a 68-56 decision Saturday at undefeated Menomonie.
The Cats, now 5-4 overall, 2-3 in the BRC, will travel to Osceola (4-4) for a nonconference game Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Last Tuesday at home against Eau Claire Memorial (1-9, 0-4), the score was tied 19-19 at halftime before River Falls outscored the Old Abes 28-11 in the second half to earn the win.
Emma Purfeerst scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the second half to spark the Wildcat run. Tessa Wells and Sarah Vitale added 10 points each in the win with eight of Wells’ points coming in the final eight minutes.
Aimee Dusek finished with seven points for the Cats while Paige Lucking and Kayla Kusilek contributed two points each.
River Falls held Eau Claire Memorial to just three field goals in the second half.
Saturday at BRC-leading Menomonie (10-0, 4-0), the Indians hit nine three-pointers in the first three quarters, then went 12-of-17 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to hold off the Wildcats for the win.
The score was tied 30-30 at the half before Menomonie hit four three-pointers in the third quarter to open up a 48-41 lead. River Falls kept the Indians scoreless from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter, but Menomonie scored 12 of its 20 fourth-quarter points from the free throw line to earn the victory.
Dusek led the Wildcats with 13 points, including all three of the team’s three-pointers in the game. Wells finished with 12 points and Kusilek added 10 while Vitale and Purfeerst contributed eight each, Lucking had three and Brooke Reardon scored two.
