Jason Sheetz, owner of the River Falls Quizno’s, 303 S. Main St., confirmed Dec. 31 that the sign hanging near the restaurant’s entrance is correct: Quizno’s will be closing soon.

Sheetz said a combination of factors helped him decide to close but cited the main reason as “lack of business.” He said the franchise business is all about numbers, and his aren’t balancing.

Jimmy John’s opened across the street from Quizno’s this year, and Sheetz said that took away from the already-slow pace.

Corporate-imposed discounts, coupons and price reductions have also detracted from the local eatery’s bottom line. Also, Sheetz and his wife expect the birth of their second child this spring, and he wants to be home more often.

The owner estimates that the last day Quizno’s will be open is on or about Jan. 22. He said it was important to him to stay open long enough to let all his regular customers know about the impending close, rather than closing immediately and having them find a locked door with a note on it.

Sheetz said he’s been seeking a buyer, but he doubts a sale will happen before his target closing date.
