Editor’s Note: The following letters to Santa are some of many that were printed in the River Falls Journal over the years.

1929

  • Dear Santa Claus: I am five years old. I would like you to bring me a tricycle and a tractor. Will you have your reindeer when you come to River Falls? —With love, Buster Baird

  • Dear Santa Claus: I hope you will come to River Falls this year. I saw you at St. Paul last year. I am 9 years old. I want a fountain pen and a jackknife with three blades. That is all. —Yours truly, Edwin Morrow.

  • Dear Santa: I am glad you are coming to River Falls this year. I wish you would bring me a cowboy suit, a train and an overcoat. And my sister wants a small kitchen set, a small dresser, and a doll buggy. I have five puppies to give away. So if any boy or girl wants a puppy for Christmas please call 113F23. —Your Friends, Lois and Frederick Brunner.

  • Dear Santa, I’m a little girl six years old. Would like to have you bring me a double box of colors, a color book, a pair of scissors, a pocketbook and a new dress. Don’t forget my little brother LeRoy. He is a very nice boy and has been very good. He would like a box of colors, scissors, and two tablets, colorbook. Don’t forget Mother and Dad. —With loads of love, Delores Dusek.

  • Dear Santa, I am seven years old, in first grade. Please bring me a cowboy suit, a toy car with garage, and a little airplane that taxies. My little sister would like a new party dress, and a little wrist watch. Jackie is 2 years old and he would like a new suit and some little toys. —Sincerely yours, Larry Schorn.

  • Dear Santa Claus, I want a BB gun and it is a Red Rider gun. And my sister wants a doll, and a box of snuff for my dad. And I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. —Yours truly, Charlie Johnson

  • Dear Santa Claus, I have been as good as a boy can be who is full of pep and vinegar as I am. I want a pair of skates and a cowboy suit. —Thank you, Tommie Oligney

  • Dear Santa Claus, I am a very good girl. I help other people every day. I help all of my relatives. I would like to have you bring me a nurse and a doctor set. Thank you very much. — Sharon Ann Gelo.

  • Dear Santa: I hope Mom will let me put out some milk and cookies for you. I know you will be very hungry from your long trip. Bring me what you can. I get an ash tray for my dad when he asks me to. I wash the dishes for my mom. I watch my baby sister when Mom is working. I clean the recreation room every Saturday and I clean my room and make my bed. And I take the trash down sometimes too. I try to be good all the time.   • Dear Santa, I have been a very good boy. I help watch my baby sister and I try to keep my room as clean as I can. I am staying home from school today because I have a bad cold. For Christmas I would like some BBs. —Love, Tommy Morrow.

  • Dear Santa: My name is Sally Tyler. I am 7 years old. My big brother’s name is Jim. He is 10 years old. He said there is not a Santa Claus. I say there is one. We got in a big fight. For Christmas I want a doll called Tiny Tears. Please, I know you are mad at Jim but please give him something too. Will you leave some food? Please leave some bones for my new dog. His name is Tag. Please tell me if you are real. I hope so. It would be no fun without you. Thank you, —Your friend, Sally
