Letter: Global warming: ‘First refuge of scoundrels’

Al Gore sycophants, such as letter-writer Thomas Smith, hate Fox News and Talk Radio almost as much as vampires hate garlic.

Although global warming disciples are passionate about evangelizing the teachings of prophet (albeit, not scientist) Al Gore, what these people don’t realize is that they are being deceived.

Global warming doctrine isn’t about saving the world; it’s about money and power.

George Will stated it best. “Nowadays, green reasoning is the first refuge of scoundrels. Global warming has become like God: It is an explanation for everything and an all-purpose excuse for the political class to do whatever it wants to do.”

The question is this: If biochar and carbon sequestration technologies are sufficient for controlling unwanted CO2 levels, why isn’t the government concentrating on developing those instead of creating cap-and-trade legislation that will tax all of us on CO2 output?

Unfortunately this increase of taxes will result in more lost American jobs, moving them to places like China or India, where emissions of serious air pollutants are uncontrolled.

Even though Al Gore mentions biochar and carbon sequestration in his book, these solutions pose a dilemma for Gore’s global warming religion. Newsweek’s article pointed out that one of Gore’s assistants asked the soil scientist/expert to “dial down his estimate” of the positive effects of soil management.

In Thomas Smith’s letter, he cavalierly shrugged-off the manipulation and deleting of valuable climate data as a “kerfuffle,” but then again, the global warming crowd has never allowed the truth to get in the way of a good argument.

This manipulation of data is an appalling abuse of position, authority and influence by a group of left-wing endorsed government-funded scientists.

How can anyone take the left’s claims of global warming seriously when the only scientists supporting it are those receiving a government check?
