Donors can make an appointment online at www.givebloodgivelife.org or by calling 1-800-448-3543. They can give blood every 56 days.

Generally, donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds. ARC guidelines say a donor should wait to give blood if they have a fever or are coughing up phlegm, if they don’t feel well on donation day and until after they’ve completed antibiotic treatment for a sinus, throat or lung infection.

Many sources in the last few weeks agree that the H1N1 virus has caused a decrease in the amount of blood donated.
