John and Candace Bettendorf, who reside at 283 County Road SS, were present at last week’s Kinnickinnic Town Board meeting to address issues with their property taxes.
Town Assessor Ron Meyer was also at the meeting to explain to the Board events that took place back in 2004. At that time, the Bettendorfs split up some of their land into four parcels. Meyer assessed the parcels and incorrectly identified three as agricultural and one as residential.
The Bettendorfs contend that they have overpaid $2,400 in property taxes over a 3-year period because of the zoning error and are requesting a refund or adjustment.
Meyer said that since the couple did not file a tax appeal in a timely manner according to state stature, the decision to allow or disallow an adjustment is now up to the Board.
Find out more about this and other issues discussed at the meeting in the next print edition of the River Falls Journal.
