The state Department of Natural Resources is now taking nominations for its 13th annual Ethical Hunter award.
The La Crosse Tribune and the natural resources agency started the award program to highlight positive contributions made by those who hunt safely and responsibly.
Warden supervisor Steve Dewald says the honor is meant to be a contrast to the publicity which violators normally get.
Last year’s winner helped a young woman find and dress a buck she shot but couldn’t locate.
Another winner was honored for opening up private lands to new deer hunters.
