The UW-River Falls women’s hockey team is hoping to fill the stands with pink for its second home game of the season Friday, Nov. 13.
The Falcons will host a “Pink the Rink” game that night when they host Gustavus Adolphus at 7:05 p.m. at Hunt Arena.
Two dollars from every ticket sold, as well as all profits made from “Pink the Rick” t-shirts, will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in support of breast cancer research and awareness. “Pink the Rink” t-shirts are available now at Hunt Arena for $10 each.
“We are supporting breast cancer awareness and will be selling ‘Pink the Rink’ t-shirts with all the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation,” said UW-RF assistant arena director, Ben Fraser. “We are encouraging fans to either wear pink or buy a t-shirt to try and ‘Pink the Rink’ for the Gustavus game.”
The UW-RF-Gustavus series has been a classic matchup of highly ranked teams in the past couple of seasons. The Falcons defeated the Gusties, 2-1, in the second round of the NCAA playoffs last season on their way to their second trip to the NCAA Frozen Four.
UW-RF won last year’s NCHA regular season and playoff championships. The Falcons finished 20-7-3 overall and 15-2-1 in NCHA play and played in the NCAA Finals in Middlebury, Vt.
The Falcons, with 17 returning letter winners, open the 2009-10 season Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at St. Thomas.
