Sparky, the River Falls Fire Department’s mascot, along with local fire fighters, visited local elementary schools last week to teach kindergartners about fire safety and why not to play with fire. Teachers and their students enjoyed rides on the fire trucks. Follow-up lessons in the classroom emphasized the importance of fire safety at home and school. The Fire Department also visits schools this week to work with children in 1st-5th grades on fire safety. Kids learn to establish an escape route. They practice the lessons in a fire-safety house that simulates a smoky fire.
