Kinnickinnic: Tax increase would support county libraries
By: Patricia Huber, staff correspondent, River Falls Journal
Dave Peterson, St. Croix County Supervisor for District 15, was present at last week’s Kinnickinnic Town Board meeting to ask if the town would support a tax increase to allow more money to go towards operating expenses for all county libraries. Peterson reported that other towns have suggested a 3-year implementation plan to reach a 29% increase.
Supervisors Milo Oppegard, John Humphrey and Mary Murphy all voiced support for the tax increase. Murphy said she was in favor of the 3-year implementation plan as well.
Peterson reported that out of 60,000 annual check-outs at the River Falls library, 21,000 were identified as Kinnickinnic residents. The town’s budget meeting will be held in mid-November at which time a decision will be proposed.
