Letter: Be proud, River Falls

It is a great honor to be part of a community that cares so much to fight back against cancer with such dedication and passion.

It is a great honor to be part of a community that cares so much to fight back against cancer with such dedication and passion.

The final amounts have been tallied and the expenses have been calculated, and the 2009 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of River Falls raised $178,464.39!

The 2009 event was quite a milestone for River Falls. Not only did it surpass the net goal of $172,000, this is a record one-year high and since the Relay started in River Falls in 1998, more than $1 million has been raised to help find a cure, offer services for cancer patients, provide education and head up advocacy efforts.

This success is made possible by all the generous time, donations and fundraising efforts of the committee members, corporate sponsors, event sponsors, general donors, volunteers, team captains and team members.

I can’t thank enough all who have helped. They truly make a difference, and I know how much this is helping cancer survivors.

As a one-year, nine-month cancer survivor, I have experienced all the great work the American Cancer Society does for our community members facing this journey.

The 2010 Relay For Life is March 26-27 at the River Falls High School. Planning will start in mid-August.

There are opportunities for everyone at every level and time commitment. If you are interested in learning more, contact me at 877-423-9122, ext. 216, or kellie.burrows@cancer.org.
