The Police and Fire Commission confirmed at its July 6 meeting the Fire Department’s choice for its interim chief position: Chris Cernohous.
Cernohous said last week, “I’m just doing the job right now because they needed someone to do it, and because I wanted to.”
An assistant chief before stepping into the interim role, Cernohous has 13 years of firefighting experience in River Falls. He’s been in charge of the department’s weekly training and expects his new role to include more administration like inspecting, supervising and documenting the department’s activities with the state.
The interim chief says his No. One priority is firefighter safety and adds, “One of my biggest goals is to maintain the service we’re providing to the community.”
