Former mayor and 28-year St. Croix Gas employee Duane Pederson celebrated his first day of retirement July 1. He said isn’t yet sure how he’ll spend his days, but it won’t be working.

“I’m just going to get up in the morning(s) and see what develops,” Pederson said.

He plans to see more of wife Laureen and his two daughters plus their families. The Pedersons will probably go to their cabin in Cumberland more often, ride Pederson’s touring Harley Davidson on scenic country roads, travel some and possibly revisit their former pastime of canoeing.

He says retirement might also mean more meetings with friends at the Dish and the Spoon Café.

“We like to travel and will continue to do that,” said Duane.

The Pedersons moved to River Falls in 1969 after almost deciding not to. Pederson worked not only at St. Croix Gas but also at the former Volrath and as mayor of the city for four consecutive terms.

Read more about Pederson’s retirement and career in the July 9 print edition of the River Falls Journal.
