River Falls police are still looking into the role of two male suspects in a fight outside a Main Street bar apparently triggered by the words “Down with the Fed” imprinted on the victim’s T-shirt.

One suspect, a 35-year-old River Falls man, was arrested because the brawl violated his court-ordered probation status. The other suspect got away in a speeding white van that was briefly chased. His identity is known. The officer gave up the pursuit across city streets because it wasn’t considered a serious enough crime to risk injury.

The victim with the “Down with the Fed” shirt said he was jumped from behind and suffered various injuries, including a dislocated shoulder.

Police Sgt. John Aubart said when the investigation is sorted out, the case will go to the Pierce County district attorney for possible charges.

Last week police also:

  • Arrested a 28-year-old man for battery and obstruction at 407 S. Wasson Lane. The man allegedly beat up his ex-girlfriend after a game of cards led to roughhousing and then more serious fighting. The woman claimed she was punched and picked up by the neck and thrown to the couch. Her young child was in the apartment at the time and became upset. Officers say they had to force their way into the apartment to arrest the man because he tried to keep them from opening the door.

  • Arrested a 34-year-old woman for domestic battery at Glen Park last week. The woman allegedly injured her ex-husband by repeatedly closing the car door on him as he tried saying goodbye to his children. The kids were playing soccer at the park earlier. The woman, who was also jailed, would claim that her ex-husband had threatened her in the park, scaring the kids, and that she just wanted to get away fast.

  • Investigated the theft of a set of cymbals from the United Methodist Church last month. There were no signs of forced entry.
