A 42-year-old River Falls woman was arrested Friday afternoon for beating up her teenage daughter at home. The woman said the girl had stolen $5, was behaving badly and had punched a hole in a door. Police say the woman’s attempt to subdue the daughter was excessive and that she made statements saying she could have killed the girl but spared her life.

The teenager allegedly sustained bruises to her neck, shoulder, chest area and arms from the incident. She said her mother grabbed and pulled her hair for five minutes, slapped, kicked and punched her, and also banged her head against the wall.

The woman was first questioned about what happened at a local restaurant where she had gone to work her shift. She was later arrested and taken to county jail in Ellsworth. The district attorney has since charged her with felony abuse.

Last week River Falls police also:

  • Arrested an 18-year-old local man for disorderly conduct, obstruction, discharging bodily fluids at officers, and underage drinking-4th offense Friday night. The young man was first picked up for walking in the road in the 1200 block of South Main Street. After getting a $676 drinking citation, police were called later that night to the man’s grandmother’s home at Cudd’s trailer court on South Wasson Lane.

There, he was allegedly walking around banging his head on parked cars.

Officers couldn’t find the man right away. He was spotted soon and chased on foot nearby at the university’s lab farm, then finally caught and forcibly handcuffed near the Wildcat Center hockey arena on Cemetery Road.

The man struggled with officers and allegedly kept spitting at them, even while being driven to county jail. Deputies were unable to get him booked because of his behavior. Criminal charges are pending with the district attorney.

  • Investigated two garage burglaries in which bikes were taken. One was in the 500 block of Spring street, the other in the 1100 block of Bartosh Lane. Neither of the garages were locked. The one on Bartosh Lane had a door left open.

  • Continue to try to solve a recent string of citywide car tire slashings. No one has been caught. One of the latest was at the EconoFoods parking lot where the Navy recruiter who works inside had all four of his Chevy Impala tires slashed, resulting in a $600 loss. Call police at 425-0909 if you can help identify the culprits.
