Two Somerset residents are dead after a Monday evening car crash.

Two Somerset residents are dead after a Monday evening car crash.

Daishonna Payne, 17, and Alan Alwin, 26, were both killed after a vehicle driven by Austin Pederson, 18 of Somerset, lost control going around a curve and rolled several times on County Road C in the Town Star Prairie, according to a press release from the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department.

The accident happened at about 7:30 p.m. when Pederson was traveling eastbound on County Road C just east of 100th Street in the Town of Star Prairie.

Payne, Alwin and Pederson were all ejected from the vehicle. Another passenger, Edgar Cano, 17 of Somerset, remained in the vehicle.

Payne was pronounced dead on the scene by the medical examiner. Alwin died while in transport to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. Pederson and Cano were also transported to Regions Hospital for injuries sustained from the crash.

None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the press release.

St. Croix County Sheriff's Department, New Richmond Fire and Rescue, Star Prairie Fire and First Responders responded to the scene of the crash.

Payne and Alwin are the seventh and eighth traffic fatalities of 2009.
