Sather moves up to sergeant

After a dozen years of patrolling the streets of River Falls, Jeff Sather has been promoted to police sergeant effective June 1. Sather, 37, from Centuria, joined the police reserves in 1995 and became a full-time officer two years later. He has a degree from UW-River Falls and his wife, Lori, is a second grade teacher at Westside.

For the past decade Sather has given on-the-job training to newly hired officers.

"He's a topnotch officer as examplified by the department's confidence in him as a mentor for new officers," Police Chief Roger Leque said.

Sather said the field training allows him to brush up on his own skills.

"Going through that process again and again with the young officers reinforces what I've already learned," he said. "Becoming a sergeant now, I'll be doing more teaching, coaching and instructing -- things I'm used to doing."

Sather joins the RFPD's sergeant ranks of Janis Bock, Jon Aubart and Mike Reardon.
