Drivers survive car/semi head-on crash

Two vehicles collided just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Hwy. 63 near County Rd. VV when a northbound Dodge Intrepid driven by Brian Sickels, 37, of Red Wing, Minn. crossed the center line and hit a southbound 18-wheel truck driven by Patrick Cody, 50, of Caledonia, Minn.

Two vehicles collided just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Hwy. 63 near County Rd. VV when a northbound Dodge Intrepid driven by Brian Sickels, 37, of Red Wing, Minn. crossed the center line and hit a southbound 18-wheel truck driven by Patrick Cody, 50, of Caledonia, Minn.

A Life Link helicopter transported Sickels to Regions Hospital with unknown injuries, where he remains in serious condition. An Ellsworth Ambulance transported Cody to Fairview Red Wing Medical Center, where he was treated and later released.

Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies, Ellsworth Fire Department, Pierce County Highway Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and area tow services also reported to the accident scene.

The collision threw Sickels’ car 40 feet off the road into a ditch. The big truck jackknifed, blocking both lanes of traffic on Hwy. 63.
