Law enforcement officers awarded River Falls resident Ben Henrich the Officer of the Month award at their annual commemoration of Police Week May 10-16 in Washington, D.C. His fellow officers honored his heroic efforts as a Prescott police officer who responded to a scene in February 2007.
A truck had crashed into a home, ruptured a natural gas line and started a fire. Henrich was attempting to revive and remove the truck’s driver when the natural gas line exploded.
Pictured is National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial Fund Chairman Craig Floyd presenting Henrich with a plaque of recognition. Henrich said a candlelight vigil during police week to honor fallen soldiers was especially moving.
Each year during police week, more names are added to the memorial wall that lists the 18,662 officers who died in the line of duty, including Henrich’s former partner from Prescott, Jackie Ryden.
