Natalie Powell and Colin Rogers swept the 3200 meter run at the Big Rivers Conference/Mississippi Valley Conference Invitational Saturday at Wildcat Field.
Powell’s first place finish was one of three posted by the Wildcat girls to help them to a first place team finish at the eight-team event. The Wildcat boys finished fifth.
Both teams will compete at the New Richmond Relays Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday the Cats head to the Menomonie Invite before taking part in the Big Rivers Conference Championships a week later, May 19, in Hudson.
Saturday in River Falls, Powell won the girls’ 3200 meter run with a time of 12 minutes, 5.08 seconds. The girls also received first place performances from Kali Kramolis in the 100 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 15.98 seconds, and the 4 X 200 meter relay team of Abbey Berg, Yanique Black, Kramolis and Tessa Coggio with a time of 1:49.3.
The Wildcat girls finished with a total of 122 points to take first place in the team standings. Eau Claire Memorial was second with 118 and Eau Claire North was third with 97.
Black boosted the girls’ team score with a second place time of 27.8 seconds in the 200 meter dash and a third place time of 13.0 in the 100 meter dash. Berg finished fourth in the 100 in 13.32.
Aubri Squire finished second in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet, 6.5 inches and teamed up with Anna Parks, Mackinizie Ista and Hannah Ohlsen to take second in the 4 X 100 meter relay in 5.19 seconds. Squire also took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 31-9.5.
In the pole vault, Kayla Rohl was third with a height of 7-6 and Berg took fourth at 7-0, while Ashley Branigan was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 82-9 and fifth in the discus with a toss of 30-2.
The Wildcat girls also received fifth place finishes from Monica Morgan in the 1600 meter run (5:53.61) and Emily Snyder in the 300 meter low hurdles (53.11).
Rogers blew away the competition in the boys’ 3200 meter run with a time of 9:48.33. He was the only runner under 10 minutes with the closest competitor coming in second at 10:14.65.
The Wildcat boys finished fifth in the team standings with a total of 55.33 points. La Crosse Logan finished first with 188 followed by La Crosse Central with 168, Eau Claire Memorial with 97.33 and Eau Claire North with 59.5.
The Cats’ 4 X 100 meter relay team of Eddie Gallenberg, Sean Gilbert, Levi Johnson and Oscar White boosted the Cats’ team score with a third place time of 46.08 seconds.
Jeffrey Kujala added a fifth place time of 54.0 seconds in the 400 meter dash and Ethan Genco added a fifth place time of 2:11.39 in the 800 meter run while Grant Lillivis posted a fifth place throw of 124-0 in the discus.
