The Pierce County Recycling Center, 707 N. Maple St./Hwy. 65 N., Ellsworth, holds its spring Clean Sweep event 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, accepting hazardous waste and pharmaceuticals.

Farmers and businesses must pre register by calling 715-273-3092. The service is free to residents of Pierce County.

If spring cleaning in the home, garden, garage, workshop, kitchen or bathroom has unearthed items people can’t throw away, they can bring it to the collection event this weekend. Pierce County will accept aerosol cans, pesticide, fertilizer, spot or stain remover, battery acid, car wax, glue, glue, paint and all kinds of cleaners.

The Center also takes over-the-counter and prescription medications. Its web site advises people to black out the personal information on their prescriptions but bring them in the original bottle.

People can pay a fee at any time of the year to dispose of bulky items like mattresses, carpet, furniture and construction debris as well as appliances, fluorescent bulbs, TVs, computers, tires, LP tanks and thermostats.
