There must be something about running for school board that causes various candidates to have second thoughts. This time it’s Karen Swenson, who appeared at the district’s central office Friday morning to say she was no longer a candidate.
Without Swenson, there are five remaining candidates vying for three seats on the board: Mike Miller, Barb Kolpin, Trudy Ohnsorg, Alan Tuchtenhagen, and Davin Miller.
Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. there will be a school board candidates forum at the high school library. Anyone from the audience can submit written questions for the candidates to answer.
The school board election is Tuesday, April 7.
Before Swenson, Tim Freeman dropped out as a candidate just before the February school board primary. In that primary election, Swenson finished fourth and qualified to be on next month’s general election ballot.
Last year two school board candidates dropped out.
One was a college student studying abroad who realized he couldn’t campaign for the job while overseas. The other was a local woman who said school board responsibilities seemed too complicated for her.
