The Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Australian National Team 10-5 Thursday in Phoenix.

The Brewers scored six runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a grand-slam from Casey McGehee and a homer by J.J. Hardy. Starter Seth McClung gave up a two-run homer to Justin Huber. McClung struck out three in three innings in place of the injured Braden Looper.

The Australian team was tuning up for the World Baseball Classic. Damian Moss started for the Aussies and gave up six runs on five hits in four innings with a pair of walks.

The Brewers will play Cleveland this (Friday) afternoon. Right-hander Dave Bush will start against Indians’ southpaw Cliff Lee.

Rivera injured

Brewers’ back-up catcher Mike Rivera will be out for up to a week, after straining his right hamstring Thursday.

It happened during his morning base-running drills. He received a cortisone shot. Catching prospect Angel Salome was also added to the team’s injury report yesterday. He has a strained back, and is listed as day to day.

Milwaukee has three healthy catchers at camp right now – starter Jason Kendall and back-ups Carlos Corporan and Jonathan Lucroy.

Reliever David Riske threw at batting practice again Thursday and is expected to pitch in his first game Sunday or Monday. He’s coming off elbow surgery from last September.
