The St. Croix Valley Fusion girls’ hockey team defeated Hayward/Spooner, 6-3, Friday night in Hudson to win its first sectional championship and berth in the WIAA Girls’ Hockey State Tournament next weekend in Madison.
The Fusion will face defending state champion, the Central Wisconsin Storm (Mosinee) in a state semifinal game Friday at approximately 1:15 p.m. The Fusion have defeated the Storm twice this season, 4-3 in the season opener Nov 21 in Fond du Lac and 3-0, Dec. 20 in Baldwin.
The other state semifinal will pit either Fond du Lac or Onalaska against either Beaver Dam/Randolph or University School of Milwaukee. Those teams will meet in their respective sectional finals today (Saturday).
