State wrestling: Cudd going for third, Johnson eliminated

River Falls’ sophomore Logan Cudd won both of his consolation matches Friday and will hit the mat again Saturday morning while senior Sam Johnson was eliminated after losing in the consolation round Friday morning at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Championships in Madison.

River Falls’ sophomore Logan Cudd won both of his consolation matches Friday and will hit the mat again Saturday morning while senior Sam Johnson was eliminated after losing in the consolation round Friday morning at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Championships in Madison.

Cudd lost his 119 pound opening round match in a major decision, 15-4, to Ryan Slack of Elkhorn Thursday afternoon but defeated Chase Steiner of Sun Prairie, 13-6, Friday morning and Dominic Morelii of Racine Park Friday afternoon to remain in contention for third place. He will face the loser of Friday night’s semifinal match between Justin Enderby of Pulaski and Tanner Klitzkie of Stoughton Saturday at 11 a.m.

Johnson was a winner over Jordan Chambliss of Racine Case, 7-6, in his first round match Thursday afternoon before losing to Doug Fuller of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, 8-3 in the quarterfinals. He was eliminated with a 9-1 major decision loss to Nick Broadway of Hartford Union.
