Wildcat skaters advance; boys hoops winners

The Wildcat hockey team defeated Amery, 10-4, Thursday night at Wildcat Centre to advance to the WIAA sectional semifinal round Tuesday in Hudson. In Rice Lake Thursday night, the Wildcat boys basketball team edged the Warriors, 48-47, to improve to 14-4 overall, 7-4 in the Big Rivers Conference.

The Wildcat hockey team defeated Amery, 10-4, Thursday night at Wildcat Centre to advance to the WIAA sectional semifinal round Tuesday in Hudson.

In Rice Lake Thursday night, the Wildcat boys basketball team edged the Warriors, 48-47, to improve to 14-4 overall, 7-4 in the Big Rivers Conference.

In regional hockey action in River Falls, Jackson Rohde netted a hat trick as the Cats stormed back after falling behind early, 1-0, to post a 10-4 victory over Amery.

Amery scored 38 seconds into the game and Rohde’s first goal tied the score with just over three minutes remaining in the first period. The Cats erupted for six goals in the second period, including three shorthanded, to take a 7-3 lead after two.

River Falls moves on to face Hudson in a sectional semifinal Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Hudson. The Raiders defeated Somerset/Osceola, 9-1 Thursday night. Tickets will go on sale Monday at 7 a.m. at the high school activities office. Cost is $4 each; limit four per person.

In boys’ basketball Thursday night, Zach Pavlichek and Lance Westberg scored 13 points each in the Wildcats’ 48-47 victory at Rice Lake. The Cats’ next game will be Monday at 7:30 p.m. at New Richmond.
