Troy approves YMCA camp building permit

A riverway application for construction of a new building at YMCA Camp St. Croix was discussed and approved Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Troy Town Board meeting.

The meeting was led by Supervisor Dan Pearson, who was filling in for Chairman Ray Knapp.

The board awarded the riverway building permit, contingent that runoff be drained north or northeast away from the river, that construction erosion control meet DNR standards and that there is no impact on terrestrial or aquatic habitat in the area.

Constable report

“It’s been another quiet month,” said Constable Mel Hermansen. “The cold weather probably had something to do with it.”

Despite the weather, the constable noted that the local park trails and boat launch are still receiving a fair amount of use.

Roads, public hearing

The Town Board scheduled a public hearing and informational meeting Tuesday, March 3, on future road reconstruction plans. A back-up date of Tuesday, March 10, was set if the weather does not cooperate.

Under the tentative timeline, the town would finalize plans and take bids in one month, and award a bid during the April meeting. Construction, however, would not begin until after the winter weight restrictions are lifted.

Comprehensive plan

The town of Troy’s revised comprehensive plan is ready to move forward after more than four years of work and revisions. The board heard the latest changes made by the Plan Commission, which consisted of nothing more than grammatical changes, a font change and word changes to clarify some items.

A copy of the revised plan will be available as of Monday, Feb. 23, at local libraries and on the town’s Web site, www.townoftroy.org.

There are a few steps left before implementation of the plan, however. There will be a public hearing before the Plan Commission meeting Thursday, April 2. After the meeting the commission is expected to formally recommend that the Town Board adopt the plan.

The last public hearing will be scheduled prior to the April 9 Town Board meeting to address any final concerns before the board adopts the plan. The plan would then be sent to the town’s official newspaper for publication and be fully adopted by mid-April.

“I’ve watched and been a part of this process, and I like it a lot,” said Pearson, “I really appreciate the work that’s been done.”
