The board of directors for the Free Clinic of Pierce & St. Croix Counties met last week and elected new officers and added members. Located in space at the River Falls Medical Clinic, the free clinic was launched nearly two years ago and is open each Tuesday evening.

Through the end of 2008, it had served more than 1,000 patients, almost all of those either jobless or only part-time or seasonally employed. The biggest age group served is 45-64. Each clinic night, an average of 25 volunteers manage the 3.5-hour shift. Those volunteers, including doctors, come from the two-county area. To learn more and to consider making a donation for the continued operation of the free clinic, go to www.freeclinicpiercestcroix.org. Many donated honorariums and memorials are on behalf of a loved one.
