The St. Croix Valley Fusion girls’ hockey team outshot Chippewa Falls 46-13 Thursday night in Baldwin but was only able to get two goals past Cardinals’ goaltender Kiara McChesney.
Fortunately, that’s all it needed.
Alice Cranston broke a scoreless tie at the 12:30 mark of the second period and Nikki Plunkett scored an unassisted goal midway through the third to lift the Fusion to a 2-1 victory in a battle between the two top-ranked teams in the state. St. Croix Valley goaltender Devin Roen stopped all 13 shots she faced to record her 10th shutout of the season.
The top-ranked Fusion improved to 16-0-1 while No. 2 Chippewa Falls slipped to 10-4-1. St. Croix Valley will take on Hudson (7-9-0) in its last regular season home game Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Wildcat Centre in River Falls.
