Two Wildcat football players have received all-state recognition for their play this season.

Senior running back Levi Johnson and senior lineman Luke Johnson have both been named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) All-State Team. Levi Johnson was also named to the Associated Press (AP) All-State Team while both players were selected to the All-Northwest Region First Team.

Levi Johnson, who was previously named the Big Rivers Conference 2008 Co- Player of the Year, made the WFCA All-State First Team and the AP All-State Honorable Mention Team. He rushed for 1,541 yards in 199 carries this season, an average of 7.7 yards per attempt.

He averaged 140 yards per game and ran for over 100 yards in nine of the Wildcats’ 11 contests, including a 247-yard effort in a 41-18 win over Eau Claire North Sept. 3. He scored 22 touchdowns, including five of 60-yards or more, and had a 90-yard kickoff return in the team’s playoff win at La Crosse.

Luke Johnson was selected to the WFCA All-State Honorable Mention Team as an offensive lineman. He was previously named to the 2008 All-BRC First Team on offense and Second Team on defense.

He helped anchor an offensive line that helped the Wildcats average over 255 rushing yards per game and nearly 1,000 total yards passing. On defense, he finished the season with 54 tackles, eight for loss of yardage, and forced two fumbles.

The Wildcats finished the year with a record of 7-4 and advanced to the second round of the WIAA playoffs for the first time since 1995. They won their first playoff game in 13 years by defeating La Crosse Central, 35-14, in La Crosse Oct. 28 before losing to Marshfield, 35-28, in a Level 2 playoff game Nov. 1.
