With the holidays, it's a busy time of year. The American Red Cross asks people to consider adding one more item to their to-do list: Donating blood.
There are two upcoming blood-donation opportunities in the River Falls area:
--11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at First National Bank, 104 E. Locust St.
--1-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Sacred Heart Church, 104 Sabin Ave., in Spring Valley.
Red Cross officials said blood donations typically drop 5% during the winter holiday season.
"Giving blood only takes an hour," said David Mair, interim CEO of the Red Cross North Central Region. "It's important that people take the time to donate blood this holiday season to help ensure a stable blood supply."
Simply call 1-800-448-3543 or visit givebloodgivelife.org to make an appointment or for more information. Walk-in donors are also welcomed.
All blodd types are needed. Bring a blood donor card, driver's license or two other forms of identification when you check in. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old.
