Today (Thursday) there will be a massive flag display held in front of UW-RF’s University Center to pay respect to each person killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorism attacks.
The tribute, sponsored by the College Republicans and Young America’s Foundation, coincides with the 7-year anniversary of 9-11.
UW-RF College Republican President Casie Kelley said, “The victims of the terrorist attack should be honored, and we believe this memorial is a fitting tribute.”
Kelley and her group will place 2,977 American flags on the ground by the University Center – one for each person killed in the 9-11 attacks.
As part of the program, the campus will also honor the victims with a candle-light vigil at 8 p.m. in front of the University Center by the flag display.
“We are proud to lead the effort to remember those lost on that day,” Kelly said. “While it was seven years ago, the memory should never fade from our nation. We call on all individuals within the campus community, and the community at large, to participate.”
Young America’s Foundation’s “9-11: Never Forget Project” is part of a nationwide program on college campuses. This year more than 180 campuses like UW-RF are expected to participate.
