There was a little bit of something for everyone August 7-10 at The Pierce County Fair this year, from games and food to baby animals and exhibitions.
Timed riding competitions had young equestrians speeding around the horse arena. In the speed and action competition, riders had to keep their horses within a marked box for five seconds before racing across the arena and back. To make it more difficult, the horse was required to stop in that same box for another five seconds after the return trip.
The barns held other treasures for farm and animal lovers. Pierce county youth showed their goats, sheep, pigs, cattle and even llamas for the judges. On-site boarding facilities ensured visitors got the chance to see all the animals.
The fair wasn’t all about the animals. There were photography exhibits, craft exhibits, garden produce competitions, information booths, carnival rides and food.
Other events included the most admired senior citizen award, talent shows, live comedy and music, a chainsaw sculptor, horse and tractor pulls, a petting zoo, livestock auction and free cake in celebration of the 125 years of fairs at the fairgrounds in Ellsworth.
