The UW-River Falls football team will kick off the 2008 season in Collegeville, Minn., at perennial NCAA Division III powerhouse St. John’s Saturday, Sept. 13.
The Falcons’ 10-game schedule features five road games and five home contests, including the Homecoming and Shrine Game Oct. 4 against UW-Stevens Point. The Falcons’ home opener will be Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. against Northwestern College (Minn.).
This season marks the third straight year the Falcons will face St. John’s. The Johnnies have won the last two contests, 41-9 in Collegeville in 2006 and 21-10 last year at Ramer Field. St. John’s leads the all-time series between the two teams, 4-1, with the UW-RF’s lone win back in 1937 by a score of 12-6.
The Falcons’ home opener Sept. 20 will mark the first ever meeting against Northwestern. The Eagles finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 7-2, and won their 16th Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championship with a perfect league mark of 7-0.
The Falcons will hit the road Sept. 27 for their final nonconference game at Alma College (Mich.)
Following the Homecoming and Shrine Game against Stevens Point Oct. 4, the Falcons will host defending NCAA Division III national champion UW-Whitewater Oct. 11 at noon. The rest of the schedule includes road games at UW-Eau Claire Oct. 18, UW-Platteville Nov. 1 and UW-La Crosse Nov. 8 and home games with UW-Stout Oct. 25 and UW-Oshkosh Nov. 15.
Due to construction at UW-La Crosse’s Memorial Stadium, the Nov. 8 game against the Eagles will be played at Maxwell Field at Alltell Stadium at Winona State University.
