Memorial Day events in River Falls area

Monday, May 26, is Memorial Day. The River Falls American Legion Post 121 will visit six cemeteries and present its annual program at Greenwood Cemetery on that day.

Events begin with the Legion members’ visit to Kinnickinnic Cemetery at 7 a.m.; Mann Valley Cemetery at 7:20 a.m.; Glass Valley Cemetery at 8 a.m.; Cherma Cemetery at 8:30 a.m.; St. Bridget Cemetery at 9 a.m. and Greenwood Cemetery and program at 10 a.m.

The program begins with a welcoming speech by Howie Nelson, commander of Post 121. Pastor Kevin Humphrey will give an invocation followed by a musical selection by the Croix Chordsmen Chorus.

Marie Deja, Legion Auxiliary president will give a tribute to Gold Star Mothers followed by another musical selection by the Croix Chordsmen.

Next is an address to persons gathered by Wisconsin American Legion Adjutant, Terry Troutman.

Legion member Tom Caflisch will then recognize honored families, followed by reflective statements by combat veterans.

Pastor Humphrey will consecrate the newly planned veterans memorial site.

The River Falls High School Band will play a musical selection.

Next on the program is the post’s honor guard’s salute to the honored dead, followed by a rendition of “Taps” by Doug Johnson, town of Kinnickinnic.

Pastor Humphrey will give the benediction.

The high school band will close the event with another musical selection.

In case of bad weather, the program will be held in Meyer Middle School’s gym. Persons are asked to use the south door entrance.
