Following outcry during the public hearing portion of a recent City Council meeting, the city will hold a special public meeting 11 a.m. Friday at the Lazy River, 115 W. Walnut St.

The purpose is to gather information and feedback regarding proposed changes to local Ordinance 5.08.

The law pertains to the city’s requirements for applying for a liquor license.

Proposed changes would require new applicants to supply a laundry list of information that hasn’t been required before.

The changes also spell out a list of criteria that council members can use to evaluate applications both for first-time and existing liquor licenses.

The mayor and a quorum of City Council members will be present at the meeting, but no official action will be taken.

According to city sources, the meeting serves as a way to share information before the item appears on the council’s agenda for a vote.
