Next Tuesday the field of five candidates running for St. Croix County’s newly created Branch 4 Circuit Court Judge position will be pared to just two finalists.

Of the five candidates, one attorney, Howard Cameron, has what it takes to be an outstanding fit, both for our county’s increasing judicial needs and for its citizens who deserve nothing less than the best in a judge.

Among the many professional and personal attributes that qualify Howard for this position, one especially comes to mind. Howard has long been an advocate of a relatively new judicial concept called restorative justice.

In conversations, he has shared those features he most admires and appreciates that are inherent in restorative justice programs similar to that in operation in neighboring Barron County.

Howard would hold defendants accountable for their actions by convening victim-offender conferences, which include a face-to-face apology offered by the offender to the victim(s) and having the defendant make timely restitution.

In addition to his knowledge of the law, Howard also possesses the wisdom needed on the bench in order to apply the law with jurisprudence and with fairness to everyone.

Attorney Howard Cameron’s name says it all: C, Committed to St. Croix County; A, Accountable to the people; M, Motivated to serve; E, Experienced in the law; R, Respected by all: O, Open-minded and just; and N, Needs your vote.
