Letter: Bad feelings about new City Hall

I have been a resident of this city since 1999. My father-in-law passed on to me love for this town.
Since my wife’s family helped to found this town and Bruce Foster is not here to comment, I will. I am deeply concerned about our new city hall, our citizens’ hall.
First, I am not wild about how the city is obtaining the land. If I understand correctly, the land was donated to the city to be either a park or a hospital.
Since the city can find no living member of the donating family, the city now feels that it can ignore the wishes of those who donated the land. If I am wrong about my understanding, I hope someone will correct me. If I am right in my understanding, I think this is shameful and I will never donate anything to this city.
Second, as City Hall belongs to the people of this city, I do not understand why we cannot find space for a Senior Center within the building that our seniors can use.
Nothing has been built yet. Since the building exists only on paper. Change the paper and add the space for our seniors. Are our town leaders saying that they do not want our citizens to come to our citizens’ hall?
Lastly, the cost of the City Hall seems to be in dispute. Some say $5 million, some say closer to $7 1/2 million.
I suggest that we hold the senior city employees accountable. We cap construction cost to whatever they say it will be and then if it goes over — by even one dollar — we fire them.
