Hager City woman dies in two-car accident Saturday

A 50-yer-old Hager City woman died in a two-car accident on Hwy. 63, south of Ellsworth, Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday, March 9, at 3:24 p.m., the Pierce County Sheriff's Department was notified of a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 63 near 220th Avenue in the town of Trenton.

After the initial investigation, it was determined a southbound vehicle driven by Kalea Stewart, 22, of rural Ellsworth was slowing or stopped waiting for northbound traffic to clear so she could make a left-hand turn into a private driveway. Another southbound vehicle driven by Zebidiah Tri, 23, River Falls, did not see the Stewart vehicle and rear-ended it.

Tri and his six-year-old daughter were uninjured. Stewart and a three-year-old were transported to Red Wing Mayo Hospital with undetermined injuries. A third occupant in the Stewart vehicle, Brenda Bemis, 50, Hager City, was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Medical Examiner Jenny Scott.

The accident is still under investigation by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Assisting the Pierce County Sheriff's Department at the scene were the Wisconsin State Patrol, Ellsworth Fire Department, Ellsworth Area Ambulance, Red Wing Ambulance and the Pierce County Highway Department.
