St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department has been called to investigate two apparent suicide incidents within two days.
At 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, officers answered a call to Willow River State Park on a report a man had text messaged his wife he intended to take his life.
The sheriff report said Stephen William Coy, 44, Deer Park texted he would be in a tree 300 feet west of campsite No. 356. Deputies arrived at 7:18 and found Coy sitting on a tree branch with a nylon–type rope around his neck and attached to the tree.
Deputies attempted to negotiate with Coy to no avail. He dropped from the tree and the rope stopped his fall about three-to-four feet above the ground. Deputies cut him down within 30 seconds and applied CPR until EMS arrived but he was unresponsive.
The medical examiner listed the time of death at 7:48 p.m.
On May 22 at 11:42 a.m. the sheriff’s department also investigated the apparent hanging death of a 27-year-old woman in the town of Somerset
The sheriff’s report said the Houlton woman was found hanging from a tree near an outbuilding off of 23rd Street. The medical examiner’s report said the woman had been there for some time and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
