Men’s Basketball: Manor posts back-to-back 18 point games

UW-River Falls’ senior Shane Manor continued to make his case for All-American and the Falcons men’s basketball team remained tied for first place in the WIAC as Manor led the team to victories over UW-Stout and UW-Platteville last week.

Manor scored a team-high 18 points in both wins, adding ten rebounds to his stat line in the Falcons’ 72-50 victory at Stout last Wednesday and hitting 8-of-12 shots from the field in UWRF’s 61-53 home victory Saturday over Platteville.

Manor has scored 12 or more points in all 20 games this season and is averaging just over 18 points, third-best in the WIAC.

More importantly, the Falcons remain tied with UW-Whitewater and UW-Stevens Point atop the WIAC standings, all at 9-2. UWRF, now 15-5 overall, travels to UW-Eau Claire (5-6, 13-7) this Saturday, Feb. 4 and returns home to host UW-Superior (5-6, 11-9) Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.

Last Saturday the Falcons had a hard time shaking Platteville until Manor hit a layup to give UWRF the lead for good, 46-44.

Wade Guerin contributed 13 points in the win while Ollie White added nine points a s team-high six rebounds. Aaron Anderson also scored nine points as the falcons improved to 6-0 at home.

Last Wednesday at Stout, Manor had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Colin Utke had 15 points off the bench as the Falcons cruised to a 72-50 victory.

Women’s Basketball: Dohrn sets career rebound mark

Maranda Dohrn became UWRF’s all-time leading rebounder in helping the No. 25 Falcon women’s basketball team to a thrilling 58-56 victory over UW-Platteville Saturday at Karges Center.

Dohrn grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to pass current Falcon assistant Traci Reimann for first on UWRF’s all-time list with 845.

Dohrn’s final rebound of the game may have been her biggest. With the Falcons up by two with 4.2 seconds remaining, Dohrn grabbed the ball off a missed free throw to secure the Falcon victory.

Alise Holst led UWRF with 19 points while Nikki Guhr finished with 15 to help the Falcons improve to 7-1 at home this season.

Men’s Hockey: Men skate by St. Norbert, lose at UWSP

The eighth-ranked UW-River Falls men’s hockey team posted its first-ever win at Cornerstone Community Center in Green Bay Friday night when Justin Brossman tallied an overtime goal to give the Falcons a 4-3 victory over No. 5 St. Norbert College.

The victory snapped a 20-game Falcon losing streak in Green Bay. The Falcons last victory at St. Norbert came in a 2-1 overtime thriller in the 1997-1998 season.

UWRF couldn’t keep the momentum going however, and dropped a 4-1 decision Saturday night at UW-Stevens Point.
