UW-RF prof charged with sexual assault of child

A UW-River Falls music professor was charged with 2nd degree sexual assault of a child and false imprisonment in St. Croix County Court Friday. Both are felony charges.
Thomas William Barnett, 42 of Baldwin, has a preliminary hearing scheduled Sept. 21.
Barnett is in his 10th year of teaching at UW-RF and his emphasis is in trumpet performance and instruction, River Falls Brass, Music Theory and directing the concert/pep band. Before coming to River Falls he has taught at the University of Missouri, Truett-McConnell College in Georgia and Georgia College and State University. He is also one of the founding members of the River Falls Brass, a faculty brass quintet at UW-RF.
He is married and has three children.
