ROCHESTER, Minn. - Over 100 musicians will perform next weekend at a festival in Rochester -- and all of the proceeds will help the children of a Lake City police officer killed in the line of duty.
Iraq War veteran Alan Sylte Jr. of Hager City shot officer Shawn Schneider during a domestic disturbance on December 19th. Sylte then got into a standoff with police before he killed himself. The 32-year-old Schneider died 11 days later. His family is organizing the benefit concert, which is set for a week from tomorrow at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.
Meanwhile, residents were evacuated after another domestic disturbance in Lake City yesterday, not far from the one where Schneider was killed. Police said a man fired a weapon and told his girlfriend to leave. He suffered a gunshot wound to one of his shoulders, and he surrendered a short time later.
