Barrett, 49, is free on a signature bond, after being charged in Sauk County with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
His wife told authorities Barrett was upset because he was trying to sleep while their 11-year-old son was watching TV last week and he reportedly struck the boy’s 13-year-old brother and put marks on his back
Barrett is due back in court Sept. 29.
His wife has asked for restraining orders.
Barrett is a former University of Wisconsin-Madison lecturer who told students the Bush administration orchestrated the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Last Tuesday, Barrett defeated Ben Olson in a Libertarian primary for the congressional seat held by La Crosse Democrat Ron Kind.
