A 12:10 a.m. motorcycle crash near River’s Edge in rural Somerset on Saturday resulted in a fatality. In a separate accident to the south, a Minnesota woman was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul after she crashed through a barbed-wire fence and struck a culvert.
Dale A. Oehme, 47, New Richmond, was riding his 2002 Kawasaki RS motorcycle west on River’s Edge Drive, about a tenth of a mile east of Raleigh Road in the Town of Star Prairie, when he entered the north ditch.
According to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s office, the motorcycle overturned and came to rest on top of Oehme.
He was transported by New Richmond Ambulance and Rescue Service to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
According to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department report, Oehme was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Assisting at the scene was New Richmond Fire Department and Star Prairie First Responders.
The crash marked the second fatality of 2010 in St. Croix County.
In Pierce County Sunday afternoon, a Hugo, Minn. woman was driving her motorcycle northbound on CTH O just north of Hwy. 35 when she left the roadway on curve, entered a ditch,traveled through a barbed-wire fence and struck a culvert, causing her to be ejected from the bike.
Mary Fashner, 62, was transported from the scene by Red Wing Fire Department ambulance directly to Regions Hospital.
Her condition is unknown.
Fashner was wearing a helmet and protective clothing at the time of the crash.
Red Wing Fire Department and an Ellworth Area Ambulance Service first-responder assisted at the scene, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
