The new owner of a coal-fired power plant in Cassville says it will burn wood waste instead.
DTE Energy Services of Ann Arbor, Mich., said last week it would buy the EJ Stoneman plant from the parent company of the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation.
State and federal regulating bodies must still approve the deal.
DTE runs two other power plants with wood wastes and company president David Ruud says it will put the same expertise to work in Cassville.
He says it will help the state reach its goals for using more alternative energy.
The group Clean Wisconsin praises the move. It says the plant will eliminate its mercury pollution and help reduce the risk of global warming.
