The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won its NCAA Division 3 softball regional Sunday 6-0 over UW-Oshkosh.
The Blugolds' Casey Leisgang tied the WIAC’s career home run record with 38. Jill Janke had four singles and Jenny Ross threw a five-hitter for UW-Eau Claire, which improved to 32-and-11.
The Blugolds will now play in the national Elite Eight next Friday in Salem, Va.
UW-Whitewater also has a shot at the Elite Eight. The Warhawks will play top-seeded De Pauw today (Monday) in the finals of the Rock Island Regional.
UW-Whitewater stayed alive with a 2-1 win over De Pauw Sunday.
Suzanne Gersich hit a walk-off single to improve the Warhawks’ record to 34-9. De Pauw dropped to 40-3.
Earlier Sunday, UW-Whitewater eliminated second-seeded Wartburg 7-3.
