A fugitive wanted for a rural Dane County murder a week ago is now in custody for that killing, and at least one more.

Charles Witzel, 42, Loganville, turned himself in overnight at a Walmart store in Dodgeville, just hours after a fatal shooting incident near Mineral Point.

Earlier, it was reported that three people were killed in that incident.

Now, we’re learning that one person was shot to death, and another was wounded.

Authorities said Witzel went to a former girlfriend’s house late last night. She wasn’t home, but officials said Witzel allegedly shot two others who were there.

Witzel was the subject of a nationwide manhunt since last Friday, when he allegedly went to the home of an acquaintance in Cross Plains and shot two people.

Craig Severson, 45, died, and his 27-year-old fiancée was wounded as the two were preparing a birthday party for their one-year-old son.
