A nationwide search is underway for a Loganville man charged in the shooting death of a Cross Plains man on Friday.
Dane County authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Charles Witzel Jr., 42, on charges of homicide and attempted homicide.
Craig Severson, 45, was killed and his fiancée Lisa Morgan, 27, was wounded on Friday.
Severson’s brother Ken told the Wisconsin State Journal the couple was planning a birthday party for their one-year-old son, and Witzel might have blamed Severson for the break-up of one of Witzel’s relationships a year ago.
Morgan is hospitalized in critical condition under a police guard.
The youngster was not hurt, and is said to be staying with relatives.
Officials say Witzel has relatives outside Wisconsin and there’s some indication he could survive in the wilderness if need be.
Witzel was convicted in Dane County of carrying a concealed weapon in 2005. A year later, he was put on a year’s probation for pointing a firearm at a person in Iowa County.
