Here’s another sure sign of spring. The Merrimac Ferry is running once again.
It carries cars, bicycles and walkers across the Wisconsin River between Merrimac in Sauk County, and the town of Okee in Columbia County.
The boat runs on an underwater cable, so it goes straight regardless of how the water moves.
It’s been a free ride for folks since 1933. It shuts down when ice forms on the river.
Last year, unseasonably warm temperatures allowed the ferry to reopen in January.
